Cards Host Second-Straight Top Ranked Opponent

UofL faces No. 1 Syracuse on Saturday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville lacrosse program continues Atlantic Coast Conference play on Saturday as they host No. 1 Syracuse at noon at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
The Cardinals (4-5, 1-3 ACC) are coming off of a tough weekend, falling 20-7 to then-ranked No. 1 North Carolina on Thursday and 15-11 to Marquette on Sunday.
Nicole Perroni and Hannah Morris led the team against North Carolina, recording three goals apiece. After the Tar Heels opened up a 5-1 advantage in the second quarter, Perroni and Morris combined to scored three goals to trim the UNC's lead to 5-4 before the half. The Cards were scoreless for the entire second half. Against Marquette, Allegra Catalano led the Cards with a season-high four goals. Perroni and Morris both earned another hat trick. UofL was tied 3-3 to start the second quarter before they pushed their lead to 6-3 with three straight goals from the Cardinals. The teams battled throughout the third quarter before Marquette took the 11-10 lead into the fourth quarter. The Golden Eagles scored the first two goals of the final quarter before Morris shot in another goal. Marquette scored twice more to win 15-11.
Perroni continues to dominate through the season, recording five straight hat tricks and 25 season goals. She leads the team in seven categories: points (28), goals (25), shots (54), shots on goal (40), free-position goals (7), and ground balls (18), and caused turnovers (12). The Ontario-native is on a 29 goal-scoring and point-scoring streak that started on April 1, 2021. Her goal-scoring streak ranks second in Cardinals' history and her point-scoring streak ranks third.
The Cardinals are in their toughest stretch of the season, facing three top-five opponents in 14 days. The stretch began at No. 5 Boston College on March 11 and continued through weekend against No. 1 North Carolina. The Cards face their third top-five opponent in four games as they take on newly ranked No. 1 Syracuse.

Syracuse (10-0, 4-0 ACC) is off to the best start in program history. The Orange took down No. 6 Stony Brook 16-11 on Wednesday, which marks the fourth win against a top 10 opponent and sixth against a top-20 foe this season. The 10-game winning streak marks the sixth double-digit run in program history. Megan Carney scored a season-high six goals, while Emma Ward tied her career high with seven assists. Olivia Adamson posted a career-best 12 draw controls. Emma Tyrrell earned four goals and Delaney Sweitzer played all 60:00 minutes, recording eight saves.
