Louisville registers second straight shutout and sixth straight win on the opening day of the Cardinal Classic
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville softball team earned its sixth straight win and second consecutive shutout with a 7-0 victory over Northern Kentucky Thursday evening at Ulmer Stadium.

Louisville (12-4) will return to action on Saturday against Toledo at 10 a.m. and No. 22/22 Northwestern at 5:30 p.m. Â

Graduate senior Taylor Roby (5-1) picked up the win the circle, scattering four hits and striking out nine in six innings and helped her cause by going 2-for-2 with two RBIs at the plate. Current ACC Player of the Week Korbe Otis continued her offensive momentum with two hits, a run and an RBI.

The teams played through four scoreless innings before the Cardinals broke through with a pair of runs in the fifth. After a hit by Roby, Sarah Gordon reached on a fielder's choice and Elana Ornelas followed with a single. Vanessa Miller doubled Gordon home and Ally Alexander's sacrifice bunt saw Ornelas safe at the plate to put Louisville on top 2-0.

The sixth inning brought five more runs with RBI hits by Otis and Gordon, Roby's two-run single and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Paige Geraghty, bringing the final score to 7-0.

Junior Gabby Holloway retired all three batters she faced in the seventh inning to combine for the shutout.
Amber Flores (1-1) took the loss for the Norse, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out one. Ella LeMonier, Olivia Pastin, Charly Koehler and Mrielle MiMemmo each had a hit for NKU.
