Louisville Set for Cardinal Classic

Cards welcome Northern Kentucky, No. 22/22 Northwestern and Toledo to Ulmer Stadium this weekend
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville softball team will continue its home stand this weekend when the Cardinals welcome Northern Kentucky, No. 22/22 Northwestern and Toledo to Ulmer Stadium for the Cardinal Classic.

After the original tournament schedule was adjusted due to rain in the forecast for Friday, Cardinals will begin play on Thursday in a single game against Northern Kentucky at 4 p.m.

Parking: Fans are encouraged to park in the Floyd Street Parking Garage for a $5 fee.

• File leads the team with a .500 batting average. Roby has belted out a team-best five home runs with 14 RBIs.
• Louisville is batting .310 as a team with six players hitting above .300.
• Alyssa Zabala (5-1) carries a 1.99 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 31.2 innings of work. The freshman was named to the NFCA Leadoff All-Tournament team after an impressive collegiate debut.
• Louisville was picked to finish seventh in the 2023 ACC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

THE HOLLY APRILE ERA
• Head coach Holly Aprile is entering her fifth season as UofL's head coach. During her time at the helm – which includes the COVID-19 impacted 2020 season, Aprile guided the Cardinals to 104 wins and an NCAA regional final appearance in 2019.
• Prior to her arrival at Louisville, Aprile, the 2018 ACC Coach of the Year spent 10 seasons (2009-18) as Pittsburgh's head coach and five years (2004-08) as an assistant. In 2018, she earned ACC Coach of the Year honors after leading the Panthers to the 2018 ACC Coastal Division title and a runner-up finish in the ACC tournament.

The Wildcats closed out the tournament with a pair of wins beating then-No.18 Kentucky 9-3 and San Diego 2-1.

• In her first collegiate start in the circle, Cassie Grizzard (1-1) scattered three hits and tied a career-high with four strikeouts as she went the distance in the five-inning shutout. Junior Paige Geraghty led the Cardinals at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double and a triple while tying her career high RBI total with five in the contest.
