February 27, 2023 | Women's Lacrosse
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Kylea Dobson scored a career high six goals to lead the University of Louisville women's lacrosse team to a 15-12 non-conference win over Vanderbilt Monday in Nashville, Tenn.
The win moves the Cardinals to 3-2 on the season, while the Commodores fell to 1-3 overall. Louisville out-shot the Vanderbilt 26-21 in the contest and each team committed 18 turnovers.
Nicole Perroni equaled a season high with four goals in the win and extended her scoring streak to 25 games. Kokoro Nakazawa added three markers and her sister, Negai Nakazawa contributed a career best two tallies to get the Cards back on the winning track.
"We came out of the gates on fire," head coach Scott Teeter said. "We let Vandy back into the game in the second quarter with some self-inflicted mistakes. I thought our start was excellent and we jumped out to a big lead which allowed us to play a lot players. We were 6-of-7 on man-up possessions, which was certainly a big positive in the win."
Louisville jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game on goals by Dobson, Perroni and Negai Nakazawa. Vanderbilt answered with a goal a minute later, however, the Cardinals scored three more times to take a 6-1 advantage after the first period. Louisville has outscored the opposition 35-16 in the first half of games this season.
Vanderbilt's Nancy Halleron scored, and Bri Gross added two consecutive goals to start the second period to trim the UofL lead to 6-4, however, Perroni's third goal of the game and two goals by Dobson within 56 seconds upped the Cards' lead to 9-4.
Coming out of the break, Louisville tallied five of the six goals in the third stanza to take 14-6 lead into the final quarter where the Commodores held a 6-1 advantage over the Cardinals.
In the nets, Sara Addeche led the Cardinals with four saves.
Louisville returns to action on Friday when they host Cincinnati at 4 p.m. in the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
