The duo was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Third Team.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville men's soccer players Damien Barker John and Sander Roed each earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors as announced by the organization this week.
The Louisville duo was named Third Team All-South Region. This is the second All-Region selection for Roed, who was a second team honoree in 2022.
Barker John burst onto the scene for the Cardinals in his sophomore season. The forward led the Cardinals with nine goals and 21 points while adding three assists. Barker John picked up a brace in three matches this season becoming the third Louisville player since 2001 to register three multi-goal matches in a season.
Roed was once again a key piece of Louisville's offensive attack in 2023. The junior finished with five goals and led the Cardinals with nine assists, tied for the fourth-most in a single season in program history. Roed had a night to remember in the ACC Championship quarterfinal round, notching a hat trick and an assist in a 4-3 win over Notre Dame. His hat trick was the first by a Louisville player since 2017 and his seven points set an ACC Championship record.
Both Barker John and Roed were among 44 players invited to the fourth-annual adidas MLS College Showcase taking place Dec. 6-9 in Phoenix, Ariz.
The Cardinals finished the 2023 season with a 12-6-3 record, earning a NCAA Tournament berth for the third consecutive season.
