Louisville Baseball Plays Dodgers Academy Team to Tie
October 07, 2023 | Baseball
The Cardinals finished 7-7 against a Los Angeles Dodgers Academy team on Saturday.
JUAN DOLIO, Dominican Republic – The University of Louisville baseball team took the field for the first time on Saturday as part of their five-day international tour in the Dominican Republic.
Rain altered the original schedule for the Cardinals, postponing their planned contest against Leones del Escogido.
Louisville still traveled to the Los Angeles Dodgers Academy in Guerra though, playing an academy team full of Dodgers' prospects to a 7-7 tie.
Gavin Kilen led the Cardinals at the plate with a 2-for-2 day, driving in three runs. Brandon Anderson also tallied a pair of hits and drove in one. Lucas Moore reached base via a single and hit by pitch, stealing two bases and scoring twice. Michael Lippe also drove in two with a double off the left-centerfield wall.
Jake Karaba struck out six in three innings starting the game, allowing two runs on three hits. Josh Klug turned in a scoreless outing, retiring five of the six batters he faced.
Louisville's adjusted game schedule now features two games on Sunday. The Cardinals will play Leones del Escogido at the New York Yankees complex along with a game against the Dominican Republic Air Force Team in San Isidro.
CARDINALS VISIT LOCAL ORPHANAGE
Following Saturday's game, the Cardinals stopped at Pasitos de Jesus, an orphanage for girls in Boca Chica. The players and staff spent the evening interacting with the children, playing games, dancing and more before departing. The orphanage visit was a continuation of the community service portion of the trip in partnership with Score International.
