Louisville will open the 2023-24 season Saturday at Alabama’s Head of the Black Warrior River
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville rowing team will open its 2023-24 season Saturday at Alabama's Head of the Black Warrior River.
Â
The regatta field also includes the host Crimson Tide and the University of Miami. The Cardinals will send Varsity fours, eights and a novice boat to the event which is slated to start at 10 a.m. (ET).
Â
Head Coach Derek Copeland on the Head of the Black Warrior River
"We are returning to Alabama for the second year. We found that the format and competition last year fit nicely with our fall season goals.
Â
We will compete in a head race style event on Saturday morning. We will field up four Varsity 4s and one Novice 8. We have spent more time training in the fours so far this year and are excited to see how these boats stack up against Miami and Alabama. The novice will compete for their first time in this sport. It'll be fun for them to see their learning pay off.
Â
In the second session, we will go back out in a 1v8, 2v8, and Novice 8. Those boats will do a few shorter, head-to-head pieces against the same boats from Miami and Alabama. This will allow us to extend the competition in a way that prepares the teams for easily spring racing on 2024. This design should be a lot of fun."
Â
Up Next
Louisville will travel to Charlottesville, Va., to compete in the Rivanna Romp Head Race on Nov. 12.
