Louisville Wraps Up Day One of ACC Championship

CLEMSON, S.C. – The University of Louisville rowing team opened the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Friday morning at Lake Hartwell.

In Friday's action, Louisville's Varsity Eight crew raced to a time of 6:28.729 to finish fourth in its heat, less than a second behind No. 22 Clemson (6:28.339) and ahead of SMU (6:33.999) and Notre Dame (6:37.769). The Cardinals' Second Varsity Eight placed fifth in its heat with a time of 6:43.286. The Third Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four will also compete in their petite finals.

Seven ACC teams are ranked in the latest Pocock Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Coaches Poll, tied for the most among all conferences. Stanford leads the poll at No. 1, followed by California (No. 9), Syracuse (No. 11), Virginia (No. 13), Duke (No. 18), Clemson (No. 22) and North Carolina (No. 24).

Saturday's action will begin at 8 a.m. with the 3V8 petite final race. The 2V4 petite final will follow at 8:30 a.m. with the V4 slated for 8:55 a.m. Â The petite final for the 2V8 will begin at 9:20 a.m. with Cards' V8 boat taking the water at 9:45 a.m.
