Cardinals Fall Short Against No. 2 Virginia
September 25, 2022 | Women's Soccer
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team (4-3-2, 1-2-0) played its second straight road contest against a ranked opponent as the Cards fell 2-0 against No. 2 Virginia, Sunday afternoon at Klockner Stadium.
Â
Louisville had its best chance to take control late in the first half as Maisie Whitsett broke past the defense and missed a shot just to the left of the goal. The Cards were able to retain possession and get another good look for Ravin Alexander moments later, but the shot was also off target.
Â
The Cardinals held a 5-4 shot advantage over the Cavaliers in the first half with neither team registering a shot on goal.Â
Â
Heading into the second half tied 0-0, the weather became a factor as the rain began to pick up in Charlottesville.
Â
With the game coming to a close, Virginia broke the scoring drought as they booted a free kick into the top left corner of the net in the 73rd minute. The Cavaliers went on to score one more goal in the final minutes of the contest.Â
Â
The Cardinals will remain on the road as they will travel to Pittsburgh for a matchup with the Panthers on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. The game will be aired on the ACC Network Extra.
