TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The University of Louisville men's and women's cross country teams returned to the course Saturday morning at the John McNichols Invitational hosted by Indiana State University.
The men placed 5th to open up the morning, while the women's squad finished 8th as the Cardinals returned to Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course for the first time since 2019.
"We are excited to see the progress our men's and women's squads are making during a heavy training cycle," said head coach Dale Cowper. "This group is having fun and showing outstanding camaraderie on the course."
Ian Kibiwot led the Cardinal men through the line once again, posting a second straight runner-up finish with an 8K time of 24:26.4. Isaac Kiprop also finished in under 25 minutes, posting a 14th place finish in 24:53.1.
Ethan Meyer and Jack Moore crossed the line in tandem, finishing less than half a second apart. Meyer placed 32nd in 25:24.2, while Moore was 33rd in 25:24.5, running over a minute faster than in his collegiate debut two weeks ago. Spenser Wolf rounded out the scorers with a time of 25:59.9, placing 61st overall.
The women's 5K race came next, with the Cardinals being led by a top-20 finish by Madeline Castleberry, who placed 20th in a time of 18:12.5. Sydney Partyka posted a 50th place finish, crossing the line in 18:56.5.
Megan John finished in 19:31.8, with Lexie Paszkiewicz and Ellie Maurer following close behind, adding times of 19:36.5 and 19:38.6, respectively.
"There were many outstanding efforts today led by Ian and Maddy with strong individual finishes," added Cowper. "I was also very impressed by the growth Jack Moore and Megan John have shown from our first race in Boone."
The Cardinals will now begin preparations for their first home meet of the year, the Live in Lou Classic. The race will take place at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park on Oct. 1.
