LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville's men's and women's cross country teams returned to action Saturday morning at the 21st annual Live in Lou Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park.
The men's squad placed tenth as a team in the 8000m Gold Race, led by a sixth-place finish from Ian Kibiwot. Kibiwot remained in the mix for the win throughout the race and managed to kick his way to a new personal-best time of 23:31.2.
"I was excited to see Ian up front and challenging himself again this weekend," said head coach Dale Cowper. "He is having a terrific fall and will continue to be in contention."
Isaac Kiprop earned a 33rd-place finish, covering the course in 24:09.0. Ethan Meyer and Jack Moore crossed the line in near unison for the second consecutive meet, running the eight kilometer race in 24:43.4 and 24:43.6, respectively. Spenser Wolf rounded out the scorers for the men, finishing in 25:05.2.
The women's team was led again by Madeline Castleberry, who clocked 17:53.5 to place 73rd. Sydney Partyka earned a time of 18:34.8, while Megan John went under the 19-minute mark for the first time this season, finishing in 18:55.1.
Lexie Paszkiewicz followed close behind to post a time of 19:02.0, and Ellie Maurer added a time of 19:12.8 to close out the scoring for the Cardinals. The women placed 33rd as a team among the teams competing in the 5000m Gold Race.
"As a team, we let the gap widen a little too far from our number two runner to the fifth position in both races," added Cowper. "I'm confident we will be able to close that down as the ACC Championships approach later this month."
The Cardinals will conclude their regular season on Oct. 14 at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill.
