Cardinals head cross-country to face Stanford
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 3 University of Louisville volleyball heads west to No. 9 Stanford to play on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 10:00 p.m. ET at Stanford Maples Pavilion.

This will be the first match up in program history between Louisville and Stanford. Coached by Kevin Hambly in his sixth season, Stanford is coming off a win against No. 2 Nebraska and are 4-2 on the season. Their two losses have come from No. 1 Texas and No. 11 Penn State. Stanford returns three key players to the lineup in senior Kendall Kipp, redshirt junior Catie Baird, and sophomore Sami Francis. Kipp was 2021 AVCA All-American second team nominee and Pac-12 All-Conference. A 6-5 outside hitter, she leads the team in kills with 107 hitting .270 and has also recorded 11 aces, 37 digs, and 28 blocks. Baird, a 6-3 outside hitter, was a 2021 AVCA All-American second team nominee and has 77 kills, seven aces, 45 digs, and 14 blocks so far this season. Francis is a 6-6 middle blocker with 56 kills hitting .391 and has a team-high 43 blocks.

UofL is coming off a signature win against in-state rival No. 13 Kentucky in a nationally televised match. Behind Claire Chaussee's 16 kills and Anna DeBeer's 15 kills, the Cardinals won an electric five-setter in Lexington with scores of 20-25, 25-15, 26-24, 24-26, and 15-11. Cara Cresse had a career-high night with eight kills and seven blocks. Raquel Lazaro had 46 assists, 14 digs, three aces, and three blocks and libero Elena Scott added 14 digs and two aces. The Cards are now 8-1 on the season and are now 4-1 against top-25 opponents.Louisville moves to 8-1 with the 20-25, 25-15, 26-24, 24-26, 15-11 win. UofL hit .299 with 11 blocks and eight aces.
