PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Behind the one-two punch of Claire Chaussee's 19 kills and Aiko Jones' 12 kills and eight blocks, the No. 3-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team took down No. 9-ranked Stanford 3-1 in the first-ever meeting between the teams Saturday night in Maples Pavilion.

With the 26-24, 27-25, 14-25, 25-13 win, Louisville moves to 9-1 on the season, knocking off its fifth nationally-ranked opponent this season. UofL hit .222 as a team but tallied 14 blocks with three aces. Amaya Tillman had eight kills with four blocks and freshman Cara Cresse had three kills and 10 blocks. Raquel Lazaro notched a double-double with a match-high 39 assists to go along with her 11 digs and three blocks. Libero Elena Scott had an ace and match-high 19 digs.

Stanford, which moves to a record of 5-3, hit .197 as a team with 10 blocks and five aces but did not survive 13 service errors. Kendall Kipp notched a team-high 15 kills, hitting .263 while adding two aces and four blocks. Caitie Baird added 12 kills, an ace and a pair of blocks.

The Cardinals have now wrapped up their non-conference slate and will open the ACC campaign on the road with a stop in Miami Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. before heading to Florida State for a 2 p.m. match which will be televised on ESPNU.

Set-by-set recap
Set 1
The two teams stayed close in the early stages of the first set. UofL had a 4-0 run to gain some traction but Stanford answered with a 3-0 run of its own. The Cards were trailing 15-13 at the media timeout. A kill by Claire Chaussee sparked a 3-0 run by Louisville and Stanford called timeout when UofL retook the lead at 19-18. UofL scored three straight to go up 23-20 but a pair of kills by Stanford brought SU back within at 23-22 and Coach Dani Busboom Kelly called timeout. Aiko Jones put Louisville at set point on a kill before kills by Kendall Kipp and Elia Rubin tied the match back up at 24 and UofL called its final timeout of the set. Aiko Jones and Cara Cresse combined for a block and a block by Anna DeBeer and Amaya Tillman gave UofL the 26-24 win.

Set 2
In the second set, the teams took turns going on short runs, only to be answered by the other. UofL led 15-14 at the media timeout but when Louisville scored twice after the break, Stanford called timeout. The California team could not regain the lead and trailed 22-18 before stringing together three straight and spark a Louisville timeout at 22-21. The teams continued to trade points and a miss by DeBeer tied the set at 24 and the Cards called their final timeout. Set 3
Stanford used a 7-0 run to go up 17-8 and Louisville was out of timeouts. The Cardinals could never gain traction and .357 hitting by Stanford made a comeback difficult. Uof L fell 25-14 as Stanford avoided the sweep.

Set 4
Louisville regrouped and took an early 10-4 lead on a block by Cara Cresse and Aiko Jones to force a Stanford timeout. Jones had another block two points later to take a 12-5 lead and Stanford called its final timeout. Louisville's .438 hitting and aggressive serving which included two aces proved too much as the Cardinals won 25
