Cardinals Picked Third in Atlantic, Danquah Named to Preseason Watch List

Louisville opens up the season at home on Thursday, Aug. 25 against No. 10 Saint Louis.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team was picked third in the ACC Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll announced by the league on Tuesday. Junior midfielder Eric Danquah was also named to the league's Preseason Watch List.
The Cardinals received 47 overall points, slotting in third behind Clemson (64) and Wake Forest (55). Syracuse (33), Boston College (28) and NC State (19) rounded out the rest of the Atlantic Division.
Pitt (57) narrowly edged out North Carolina (52) for the top spot in the Coastal Division. Notre Dame (44), Duke (38), Virginia Tech (34) and Virginia (21) filled out the division.
Louisville was 10-7-1 last season and 5-3-0 in the ACC, securing the program's first ACC Atlantic Division title. The Cardinals were also picked to finish third in the Atlantic before last season.
John Michael Hayden helped guide the Cards back to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in his three seasons and 13th time overall.
Danquah was one of four Cardinals to start all 18 matches last season and logged more than 1,300 minutes on the pitch in his sophomore campaign. As a facilitator in the midfield, the Ghana native was third on the team with four assists.
Louisville plays its final exhibition match of the preseason on Friday night. The Cardinals will host Indiana for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. The regular season begins on Thursday, Aug. 25 at home against 10th-ranked Saint Louis. Admission to all preseason and regular season home matches is free.
