July 25, 2022 | Baseball
Lohman and Masterman signed free agent contracts with the Dodgers and Athletics, respectively.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball program has added two more student-athletes to its long list of players to move on to professional baseball.
Senior left-handed pitcher Carter Lohman and senior outfielder Cameron Masterman each signed undrafted free agent contracts. Lohman signed a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, while Masterman inked his contract with the Oakland Athletics.
The pair join the five Cardinals that were selected in last week's Major League Baseball Draft in taking the next step into professional baseball. Dalton Rushing, Jared Poland, Michael Prosecky, Ben Metzinger and Levi Usher were each drafted inside the top 10 rounds last week.
Lohman wrapped up a four-year career with the Cardinals this spring. The southpaw pitched in 38 games over four seasons, including 15 this season. Lohman struck out 62 batters in 58 innings and limited opposing hitters to a .231 batting average. The Fishers, Ind., native made four starts in 2022, including a career-best outing at No. 3 Virginia Tech with six strong innings against the Hokies.
Masterman finished off his career at Louisville with his best season in 2022. A third team All-ACC selection, he hit .305 with 14 doubles, 18 home runs and 61 RBIs, all career highs. Masterman ranked top 25 in the ACC in home runs, RBIs, total bases and slugging percentage. The Prospect, Ky., native took his play to another level in the postseason, hitting .461 (12-for-26) with four home runs and nine RBIs on his way to NCAA Louisville Regional Most Outstanding Player honors.
Louisville has had 99 players selected in the MLB Draft during Dan McDonnell's 16-year tenure and is closing in on 50 former players currently active in professional baseball.
