May 26, 2022 | Baseball
Louisville lost 9-4 to Georgia Tech on Thursday.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The sixth-ranked and second-seeded University of Louisville baseball team took a 9-4 loss to seventh-seeded Georgia Tech in its second pool play game at the 2022 ACC Championship on Thursday.
Louisville (38-18-1) will now turn its attention to NCAA postseason play. The NCAA Selection Show will air on Monday at noon on ESPN2. NCAA regional play begins on Friday, June 3.
Georgia Tech (34-22) jumped on the Cardinals Thursday, plating four runs in the top of the third inning.
The Cards were blanked over the first five frames, but got the offense going in the back half of the contest. Jack Payton singled home Brandon Anderson to get Louisville on the board in the sixth. Anderson then delivered a clutch two-out single to score a pair in the seventh.
GT responded after both innings though, pushing across a run in the seventh and eighth to keep its separation and then added three more in the ninth.
Levi Usher drove home the final run of the day for the Cards, singling in Dalton Rushing in the ninth.
Anderson turned in a multi-hit effort, going 2-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored. Rushing and Payton finished with two hits of their own.
Riley Phillips started for the Cardinals, throwing a scoreless inning in his first appearance since May 7. Carter Lohman and Kaleb Corbett each turned in scoreless frames out of the bullpen.
