Perroni Scores Career-High Five Goals in Loss to Pitt in ACC Tourney

Perroni finished with a career-high tying five goals on 12 shots, while adding two assists.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Nicole Perroni tied a career high with five goals, but it wasn't enough as University of Louisville lacrosse fell 13-10 to Pitt in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Wednesday afternoon.

With the loss, Louisville moves to 7-11 on the year, while Pitt improves to 9-9.

Trailing 2-0 early, Nicole Perroni delivered three goals in a little over two minutes to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead with 5:01 to go in the first.

But, Louisville then went scoreless for the next 27 minutes and Pitt scored six consecutive goals to build an 8-3 lead.

Allegra Catalano ended the scoreless streak with 8:15 to go in the third quarter. Back-to-back goals from Perroni and Kylea Dobson in the final 26 seconds of the third quarter pulled Louisville to 9-6.

Pitt extended that lead back to four to start the fourth quarter and three times Louisville pulled back within three, but could not get any closer.

The Cardinals outshot the Panthers 38-24 and had 29 shots on goal, but Pitt's Paulina DiFatta set an ACC Tournament record with 19 saves.

Despite the loss, Louisville won the draw control battle, 14-12, had more ground balls, 21-11, and won the turnover battle, 15-10.

Perroni finished with five goals on 12 shots, while adding two assists. She also tied a career high with six ground balls and had two caused turnovers.

Catalano and Caroline Blalock added two goals, while Dobson also scored for the Cardinals.

J Pleck played all 60 minutes in net and finished with seven saves.
