Cardinals Play Host to Virginia in Final Home Series of the Season

THE WEEKEND AHEAD
The teams will open play on Friday at 6 pm., in an ACC Network Extra-televised game. On Saturday, the Cardinals will honor graduating seniors Rebecca Chung, Carmyn Greenwood, Cassady Greenwood, Payton Hudson and Kendall Smith prior to the 4 p.m. ACC Network start. The series will conclude on Sunday at 12 p.m. on ACC Network Extra. Admission is free.

CARDINAL NOTES
• The Cardinals bring a 24-20 overall record into the game after falling in all three games at No. 3/3 Virginia Tech last weekend. Louisville also carries an 8-10 mark in ACC play and is currently eighth in league standings.
• Louisville is led offensively by graduate senior Carmyn Greenwood who is hitting at a .403 clip and ranks second in the ACC with 60 hits. She also paces the team with 47 runs and 49 RBIs and stands second with 13 home runs.
• Greenwood is currently ranked among the top 15 in the nation in total bases (5th/126), triples (6th/6), doubles (12th/15), RBIs (13th/49) and hits (15th/60).
• Redshirt senior RHP Taylor Roby has shouldered the bulk of the pitching duties and holds a 3.23 ERA with 101 strikeouts in 138.2 innings of work.
• Roby has tallied 14 homers on the season and Carmyn Greenwood follows closely with 13, both are within striking distance of the school single season home run record (17) set by Courtney Moore in 2005.
• Roby has 39 career homers and needs three more to tie Louisville's career home run record of 42 set by Courtney Moore (2004-07).
• Kendall Smith and Korbe Otis have each reached base safely in the last six games.
• Louisville is tied for the ACC lead and stands 11th in the nation with 22 double plays turned.
• The Cardinals starting lineup frequently features four freshmen.
• Louisville was picked to finish sixth in the ACC in a preseason vote by the league's head coaches.
• Carmyn Greenwood was selected to the Preseason All-ACC Softball team.

THE APRILE ERA
• Holly Aprile is in her fourth season as UofL's head coach. With the 2020 campaign suspended prior to its midway point due to the outbreak of COVID-19, Aprile has compiled a 90-82-1 record and guided the Cardinals to an NCAA regional final appearance in 2019.
• Prior to her arrival at Louisville, Aprile, the 2018 ACC Coach of the Year spent 10 seasons (2009-18) as Pittsburgh's head coach and five years (2004-08) as an assistant. In 2018, she earned ACC Coach of the Year honors after leading the Panthers to the 2018 ACC Coastal Division title and a runner-up finish in the ACC tournament.

CARDS AGAINST THE OPPONENT - VIRGINIA
Series Record: Louisville leads 15-3
Last Meeting: Feb. 20-21, 2021 - Louisville defeated Virginia 5-4 in Durham, N.C. and 4-0 in Raleigh, N.C. during the ACC Pod Weekend.
Scouting the Cavaliers: Virginia enters the weekend with a 26-21 record and a 12-9 mark in conference play and are sixth in the league standings following a three-game sweep of Pitt last weekent.
• Leah Boggs leads the team with a .292 batting average and Tori Gilbert has belted out a team-best 11 home runs. Sarah Coon and Katie Goldberg have produced 28 RBIs apiece.
• Mikayla Houge (9-4) has carried the bulk of the pitching duties and holds a 3.22 ERA with 40 strikeouts in 87.0 innings. Aly Rayle leads the team with 55Ks in 67.1 innings of work.
