Louisville Falls to No. 8/12 Kentucky

The University of Louisville softball team fell 9-0 to No. 8/12 Kentucky in the rivalry game on Tuesday night at Ulmer Stadium.

The Cardinals (21-17) will return to action this weekend when the play host to Syracuse for a three-game ACC series to wrap up a seven-game home stand.

Kentucky (28-9) jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first on four hits, including home runs by Erin Coffel and Taylor Ebbs. The Wildcats' momentum continued through the second as they brought the lead to 7-0 behind runs from Hallie Mitchell and Kayla Kowalik.

The Wildcats completed the scoring with two more runs in the fourth courtesy of Coffel's sacrifice fly and a home run from Renee Abernathy.

Taylor Roby (11-6) took the loss, allowing seven runs, six earned, on six hits and struck out one. Sam Booe surrendered two earned runs on three hits and delivered one strikeout. Carmyn Greenwood and Vanessa Miller each earned a walk to put runners on for the Cardinals.

Stephanie Schoonover (5-2) did not allow a hit in five innings and struck out four in the complete game victory. Coffey collected five RBIs while Abernathy and Ebbs tallied two hits each to lead the Wildcats at the plate.
