Poland Earns ACC Pitcher of the Week Honors
March 21, 2022 | Baseball
The senior pitched seven scoreless innings against No. 1 Notre Dame with a career-high 10 strikeouts.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville right-hander Jared Poland was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week on Monday following a standout performance against top-ranked Notre Dame.
It's the second straight week with a conference honor for the Cardinals, following Levi Usher's ACC Player of the Week award one week ago.
Poland pitched seven scoreless innings on Saturday in game two of the weekend series, allowing just three hits and striking out a career best 10 hitters. The outing was part of a big weekend that saw the Cardinals sweep the No. 1 Irish.
It was the second consecutive lights out start for Poland, who pitched six shutout innings against No. 15 TCU the week prior. Poland currently owns a 14.1 scoreless inning streak.
Poland leads all ACC pitchers with a 0.90 ERA and is the only qualified pitcher (minimum 1.0 inning pitched per total number of team games) in the conference with a sub-1.00 ERA.
Louisville wraps up its 18-game homestand on Tuesday with a non-conference matchup against Lipscomb. Tuesday is Bark at the Park Night at Jim Patterson Stadium, with first pitch now scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
