Griffin Sits in Second Place after First Round of the Darius Rucker

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Despite the field battling difficult elements in the first round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, Kendall Griffin of the University of Louisville women's golf team stands in a tie for second place after shooting a 1-under-par 71 at the Long Cove Gof Club on Monday.
The Cardinals are tied for 13th place after shooting a 301 to stand tied with Duke after 18 holes of action.
No. 21 Baylor leads the field with a 3-over-par 287, while No. 11 Texas is in second place with a 5-over-par 289. The Crimson Tide is just one stroke behind the Longhorns at 290, followed by No. 5 Wake Forest and No. 17 LSU in a tie for fourth place at 7-over-par 291.
The difficult field at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate features 17 teams, 10 of which are ranked in the Golfstat.com Top 25. The field includes No. 4 South Carolina, No. 5 Wake Forest, No. 8 Alabama, No. 10 Arkansas, No. 11 Texas, No. 13 Arizona State, No.17 LSU, No. 18 Auburn, No. 21 Baylor and No. 22 Duke.
Even while battling cold temperatures and strong winds, Griffin continued her recent run of solid play by recording three birdies to enter Tuesday's second round one shot behind Furman's Anna Morgan. Griffin managed to shoot under par. Of the 90-person field, the senior was one of just 11 players to score even-or-better. Her round featured a one-over on the front nine, coupled with an even round on the back nine.
Gabbi Bentancourt managed to crack the top 10 by tying for eighth after her even-round of 70 to also put her in position to compete for the individual title. Carmen Griffths and Agustina Gomez-Cisterna are tied for 73rd after shooting 79. Hana Ryskova is tied for 82nd after shooting 81 and Lauren Thibodeau is in 90th place.
All three days of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate will be broadcast live on Golf Channel, 1:30-4:30 p.m. CT.
Louisville will tee off in Tuesday's second round beginning at 9:40 a.m. ET on hole No. 10, paired alongside Northwestern and Georgia.
