
Cardinals Set for T-Mobile Tournament

The University of Louisville softball team will travel to the state of Florida for the second straight weekend of the 2022 season when the Cardinals head to Gainesville for the T-Mobile Tournament to play five games including two against top-15 opponents. UofL will open the tournament on Friday with games against Villanova and Florida A&M. The Cardinals will then take on No. 4/4 Florida and No. 14/14 Duke in a non-conference matchup on Saturday before closing out the weekend with another contest against Villanova on Sunday.

• Louisville brings a 4-1 record into the weekend after competing in the FAU First Pitch Classic to open the season. The Cards defeated host FAU in a double header and followed with wins against Bethune-Cookman and Indiana for their first 4-0 starts since 2012. • Holly Aprile is entering her fourth season as UofL's head coach. With the 2020 campaign suspended prior to its midway point due to the outbreak of COVID-19, Aprile has compiled a 70-65-1 record and guided the Cardinals to an NCAA regional final appearance in 2019.
• Prior to her arrival at Louisville, Aprile, 2018 ACC Coach of the Year spent 10 seasons (2009-18) as Pittsburgh's head coach and five years (2004-08) as an assistant. In 2018, she earned ACC Coach of the Year honors after leading the Panthers to the 2018 ACC Coastal Division title and a runner-up finish in the ACC tournament.

•Taylor Roby scattered four hits and struck out two in a complete game shutout while graduate senior catcher Kendall Smith connected on an RBI double to help lead the Cardinals to a 2-0 win over host FAU in their season opener.

In game two of the Firiday doubleheader, Carmyn Greenwood went 3-for-4 with a home run and tied a school record with a career-high four runs to help the Cardinals to an 11-7 victory. Roby also belted out a home run and drove in three RBIs. Chardonnay Harris earned the win in the circle while Holloway picked up her first save of the season.
• Harris made her first appearance on the field since March 8, 2020 – the final weekend of the COVID-19 campaign. She was sidelined last season while recovering from injury.

• In game two of Friday's twinbill, Louisville used two home runs, including Roby's second of the day and Hannah File's fifth-inning grand slam, to break open a 3-3 tie with Indiana.
• Roby earned the win, allowing four runs, two earned, on seven hits and striking out three in 5.0 innings. Chardonnay Harris surrendered one run and struck out two batters in 2.0 innings of relief. Five Cardinals recorded multiple hits in the game. File went 3-for 4 with five RBIs while Lotus went 3-for-4 with a double and a run to lead the way.
• The win marked the Cardinals' first 4-0 start to the season since 2012 when Louisville put together a 28-0 game win streak to start the season.
• With her two home runs on the day, Roby now has 28 in her career and stands ninth on Louisville's all-time list. She needs one more to tie Alicja Wolny (2010-13) for eighth.

• A late-inning rally by the University of Louisville softball team fell short in an 8-5 loss to Ohio State in the Cardinals' final game of the FAU First Pitch Classic.
• After trailing 8-0 entering the bottom of the sixth, the Cardinals scored five runs in the final two innings and had the go-ahead run at the plate prior to the final out of the game. The loss halted Louisville's four-game win streak to open the season.

Taylor Roby helped lead the Cardinals to a 4-1 record in their opening weekend. The redshirt senior pitcher batted .467 (7-for-15) with three home runs and a double while producing a 1.133 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage. She also earned four walks, drove in eight runs and scored four.
• Roby had at least one hit in every game and drove in multiple RBIs in three games.
• With her three home runs over the weekend, Roby extended her career total to 28 and moved to ninth on Louisville's all-time list.

Carmyn Greenwood, a graduate senior, earned 2021 NFCA All-Southeast Region first team honors after a career-best season in which she led the Cardinals with a .430 batting average, 74 hits, nine doubles and 31 runs. She also paced the team with 23 multi-hit games and is tied for eighth on Louisville's list for single season hits. The All-ACC second team selection led the conference in hits and stood second in batting average.
• The outfielder from Birmingham, Alabama completed her second season at UofL last year after transferring to from Auburn prior to the 2020 COVID-19-shortened campaign.

• Clemson collected two first-place votes and 128 points to finish second in the voting, while Virginia Tech earned 126 points with two first-place votes to occupy third. Duke was fourth with 119 points and the remaining first-place vote, while Notre Dame rounded out the top five with 99 points.
• Louisville was picked sixth with 86 points, while Georgia Tech was tabbed seventh (72). North Carolina and NC State were eighth and ninth, respectively, with 63 and 57 points. Virginia (36), Pitt (35), Syracuse (29) and Boston College (27) rounded out the poll.
