Aiko Jones joins the 1,000 Kills Club and Chaussee has career-high 24 kills
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A career-high performance by Claire Chaussee, who had 24 kills and eight digs, led the No. 5-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team to a 3-1 win over North Carolina Sunday afternoon in ACC volleyball action at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.

Following the 17-25, 25-17, 25-20, and 25-23 win, UofL moved to 13-1 in ACC Play and 22-2 overall. Phekran Kong led the team with eight blocks, while Amaya Tillman recorded six kills, five digs, and four blocks. Aiko Jones, who notched her 1,000th career kill in the third set, had eight kills, two aces, five digs, and six blocks. Anna DeBeer and libero Elena Scott both recorded double-digit digs with 10 and 12, respectively. Â Louisville hit .217 as a team with five aces and 12 blocks.

North Carolina moves to 15-10 and 7-7 in ACC play. The Tar Heels were led by Mabrey Shaffmaster, who had 16 kills, two aces, seven digs, and one block. Charley Niego had 13 kills, 14 digs, and two blocks. The Heels hit .155 with six aces and 17 service errors.

The Cardinals hit the road next weekend for two matches with No. 10-ranked Georgia Tech on Nov. 11 on Friday afternoon before heading to face North Carolina on Sunday afternoon.

Set 1
The Cards and the Tar Heels traded points to begin the match until UNC jumped out to a two point lead. A kill from Jones brought the Cards within one at 8-7. The Tar Heels pushed the score to 11-8 with a block. UNC extended their lead to 15-12 heading into the media timeout. UofL called their first timeout of the match at 19-14. A kill from Tillman brought the Cards within four points. UNC obtained game point 24-17, forcing UofL to use their second timeout. The Tar Heels won the first set 25-17 on a kill from Shaffmaster. Chaussee led the Cardinals with four kills hitting .571 and three digs.

The Tar Heels went on a 3-0 scoring run, but the Cardinals quickly answered back to tie the set 3-3. Jones recorded her sixth kill of the match and her 1,000th of her career to give the Cards a one point lead. UNC pulled ahead to a 10-6 lead as UofL called their first timeout. Back-to-back blocks from the Cards brought the score within four. A kill from Chaussee gave the Cards a 3-0 scoring run, forcing UNC to call a timeout. Back-to-back kills from Chaussee and an ace from Jones tied the score 15-15. Three more kills from Chaussee gave UofL a 6-0 scoring run. An ace from Ayden Bartlett gave UofL the 21-17 lead. The Tar Heels brought the score within two and UofL called its first timeout. Louisville won set three 25-20 on a kill from Mbonu.
