No. 4 Louisville Sweeps No. 7 Pitt on Senior Night

Chaussee records 20th double-digit kill performance of the season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Led by graduate senior Claire Chaussee's double digit kill performance, the No. 4 University of Louisville volleyball team swept No. 7 Pittsburgh on Friday night at the L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.Â

Following the 25-15, 25-21, 25-18 sweep, the Cardinals move to 16-1 in ACC play and 25-2 on the season. Chaussee led the team with 12 kills hitting .259 and had three aces, three digs, and one blocks. Both middle blockers led the team with six blocks each. Phekran Kong added a dig, while Amaya Tillman had six kills hitting .556. Nena Mbonu recorded nine kills, one dig, and one block. Aiko Jones hit .583 with eight kills, three aces, three digs, and four blocks. Raquel Lazaro recorded 32 assists, one kill, and two blocks, while Elena Scott had 13 digs and an ace.Â

Pittsburgh moved to 15-1 in ACC play and 25-3 on the season. The Panthers were led by Courtney Buzzerio, who had 10 kills, one ace, and two digs. Valeria Vazquez Gomez had eight kills and four digs.Â

The Cardinals travel to Notre Dame on Wednesday, Nov. 23 for the final match of the regular season.

Set 1
The Cards jumped out to a 5-1 lead with kills from Tillman, Chaussee, and Jones. After another kill from Chaussee, Pitt called their first timeout at 7-3. UofL pushed their lead to 11-6 on a double block from Mbonu and Kong. A 3-0 run from the Panthers brought the score within two. Back-to-back kills from Mbonu and a 6-0 scoring run pushed the score to 16-9, forcing the Panthers to use their final timeout. An ace from DeBeer pushed the score to 21-10. The Cardinals won the first set 25-15 on an ace from Chaussee. Mbonu led UofL with four kills, one dig, and one block.

The teams traded points until a block from Tillman and Chaussee and back-to-back aces from Jones gave the Cardinals a 5-2 lead. The 4-0 run caused Pitt to use their first timeout. The Panthers tied the score at 7-7. The Cards pushed the score to 12-10 on a block by Tillman and Jones. The Cardinals went on a 3-0 run, causing the Panthers to use their final timeout at 16-12. A 4-0 run from Pitt tied the score at 16-16. UofL used their first timeout. The Cardinals pushed the score to 19-17 on a kill by Tillman. Back-to-back kills from Chaussee gave UofL the 23-21 lead.
