Stevenson (MVP), Dilfer and Tillman named All Cardinal Invitational
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Aiko Jones and Anna Stevenson had 10 kills each to lead the No. 12 University of Louisville volleyball team to a 25-22, 25-12, 25-20 victory over Northern Kentucky in the final match of the Cardinal Invitational on Sunday Afternoon at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.

Jones hit .385 with 10 kills and a block with Stevenson adding 10 kills on 16 swings, hitting .625 with a team leading six blocks. As a team, Louisville had 46 kills, hitting .418 with five aces, 54 digs and eight blocks. Nena Mbonu had nine kills and Claire Chaussee had eight to add to the high-powered Cardinal offense. Tori Dilfer tallied 36 assists and Elena Scott led the team with two service aces and 15 digs.

Northern Kentucky had six blocks, three aces and hit .168 with five service errors. Anna Brinkman and Reilly Briggs led the Norse offense with 14 and nine kills respectively. With the loss, NKU moves to 2-3 on the season.
Amaya Tillman and Tori Dilfer were named to the All-Cardinal Invitational Team with Anna Stevenson earning Tournament MVP honors.Â

Set 1
The Cardinals found themselves down 7-3 early and were forced to call their first timeout of the match. The team continued to play from behind until back-to-back kills from Aiko Jones tied the set 12-12. UofL called their final timeout down 20-18 late in the action. Coming out of the break, the Cardinals rallied for three straight points to take a 21-20 lead as NKU called its final timeout. Louisville would go on to win the first set 25-22.

Set 2
UofL carried the momentum into the second set, jumping out to a quick 6-1 lead, resulting in the Norse calling their first timeout. Louisville continued its assault reaching an 8-0 run that pushed the score to 10-1 and forced Northern Kentucky to call its final timeout of the set. The Cardinals never let up pressure, eventually taking the second set 25-12. UofL hit .400 in the set with 12 kills.

Louisville controlled the set early, going on a 4-0 run to take a 7-3 lead into the first Norse timeout of the set. NKU rallied back into the game, evening the score 12-12. The set remained close, but UofL stayed strong and took a 17-15 lead off a 3-0 scoring run as Northern Kentucky called its final timeout. The Cardinals would close out the match with 25-20 win in the final set.

In earlier action, Missouri took down South Dakota 3-1 in the first match of the day. Louisville (6-0) will be back in action on Friday, Sep. 10 in Cincinnati, Ohio as they take on Purdue (4-0).
