Cardinals Open 2021-22 Fall Season at Middle Tennessee
September 15, 2021 | Men's Tennis
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will open the 2021 fall season this weekend when the Cardinals travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for the Coach Dale Short Shootout.
The tournament which takes place September 17-19 will also include host Middle Tennessee, Lipscomb and Belmont.
Seniors David Mizrahi and Alex Wesbrooks, junior Matthew Fung and sophomore Kyle Tang will represent the Cardinals this weekend in Louisville's first fall tournament since the 2019-20 campaign after last year's fall season was canceled due to NCAA COVID-19 guidelines.
"This is the first fall tournament of the season and the guys are super excited," said UofL head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "We have four guys going this weekend. Alex and David are both seniors, obviously they've got some experience traveling and playing tournaments in the fall. Matthew is coming off of a good sophomore season; and then we've got Kyle, who will be playing in his first collegiate fall season. I look forward to seeing what all of these guys can do this weekend."
Louisville will open the weekend on Friday against Belmont. The Cardinals will face the host Blue Raiders Saturday and wrap up the weekend against Lipscomb on Sunday. All matches are slated to start at 10 a.m.
"I'm really just excited about getting back out there in the fall," said Wesbrooks. "Last season we really didn't get that opportunity, but it's exciting to be back with the guys and get back into competition and we're looking forward to it."
The fall season will continue next weekend with the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals in Knoxville, Tenn.
