LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After opening the season with back-to-back wins, University of Louisville women's soccer returns to action on Sunday night when they host Northern Kentucky. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET and broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
Â
All women's soccer matches will have free admission during the 2021 season.
With a 6-2 win over Western Michigan and a 4-3 win over James Madison, Louisville has 10 goals through its first two matches, which is tied for second most through the first two matches in UofL women's soccer history. They also had 10 goals in the first two matches of the 2018 season with an 8-1 win over Wright State and a 2-1 overtime win over Xavier. The program record through the first two matches is 13 in 1985, the program's first season. They opened with a 12-0 win over Eastern Kentucky and followed with a 2-1 loss to Xavier.
Â
After watching the newbies do the scoring in the opener, it was the veterans' turn against James Madison as Maisie Whitsett (team-high 14 career goals), Morgan Bentley (2 career goals) and Delaney Snyder (9 career goals) all scored for the Cardinals. Emma Hiscock, who scored her first career goal in the opener, also scored in the JMU win and is the only player to score in both matches this season.
Â
After missing the opener, it didn't take long for senior Delaney Snyder to make her mark as she recorded her fifth career game-winning goal on a header from Mikayla Hampton in the 62nd minute against JMU. The forward from Moon Township, Pa., has nine goals, six assists, 24 points and five game-winning goals for her career.
Â
Sixth year goalkeeper Gabby Kouzelos ranks first all-time in Louisville program history with 6,373 minutes in goal and 28 career shutouts. She is tied for fourth all-time with a 1.04 goals against average. She has 199 saves in her career, which is tied with Irene Eder (1986-89) for fifth all-time at Louisville, and one shy of becoming the fifth UofL goalkeeper with 200 career saves.
"Gabby's outstanding. She's a top class goalkeeper. She's an unbelievable leader and an outstanding human being. She has an uncanny ability to communicate and the ultimate respect from her team. We're super thrilled that she came back for her final year," said head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes on Kouzelos.
