Cardinals Picked Third in ACC Atlantic, Fonseca Player to Watch

The Cardinals were picked to finished third in the division after finishing second in the spring.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Coming off a successful spring season, the University of Louisville men's soccer team was picked to finish third in the Atlantic Division in the Atlantic Coast Conference preseason coaches poll released on Wednesday.
Clemson received nine of 12 first-place votes and sits atop the Atlantic followed by Wake Forest, which tallied a pair of votes for the top spot. The Cardinals came in third followed by Boston College, NC State and Syracuse.
Pitt was voted as the favorite in the Coastal Division and was also the coaches' pick as the conference's overall champion. North Carolina was voted second followed by Virginia Tech, Virginia, Duke and Notre Dame.
The Cardinals were 5-8-1 overall in 2020, but went 4-2-0 during the spring portion of the season and finished second in the Atlantic Division.
Forward Pedro Fonseca was also named to the ACC Preseason Watch List for the second consecutive season. The senior led the Cardinals with four assists last season and second on the squad with four goals.
The Cardinals play their final exhibition of the preseason on Saturday at Indiana and then open up the 2021 campaign at Saint Louis on Aug. 26. Louisville's first home match is set for Aug. 30 versus Evansville.
