April 12, 2021 | Men's Soccer
The duo helped the Cardinals to a 2-1 victory over No. 3 Clemson on Friday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville men's soccer freshman forward Aboubacar Camara and redshirt senior goalkeeper Detre Bell were recognized by the Atlantic Coast Conference Monday, earning Player of the Week honors following their performances in the 2-1 regular season finale win over No. 3 Clemson last Friday night.
Camara was named the ACC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Bell earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors. It marks the first time that a Louisville player has received either award since Cherif Dieye took home offensive honors on Sep. 23, 2019.
Camara contributed his third game-winning goal of the season in 66 minutes last Friday night. The freshman controlled a rebounded shot attempt around the center box in the 51st minute before sending a one-touch shot from 12 yards out to extend the lead to two. The Upper Darby, Pa. native is tied for sixth in the ACC with a team-high six goals, five of which have been scored this spring. Camara is the conference's leading scorer during the spring season.
Bell came within a last-minute penalty kick from his second clean sheet in ACC play this season. The Hamilton, Bermuda native limited a talented visiting offense, recording eight saves on 14 shots faced. The redshirt senior has logged every minute in goal this spring since transferring from Cal State Bakersfield.
The Cardinals put together a 4-2-0 mark during the spring season, finishing second in the ACC Atlantic Division.
