Louisville, Ky.  – The University of Louisville softball team closed out the last day of play at the Cardinal Classic with a 4-0 loss against Miami (Ohio) Sunday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium.
Louisville (6-7) will continue its home stand on Tuesday when Bellarmine University visits Ulmer Stadium for a 6:00 p.m. matchup.
Â
Carmyn Greenwood went 2-for-4 to lead the Cardinals at the plate, help the Cards total four hits on the day. Taylor Roby and Jordyn Wolfe also registered singles as Louisville and Miami each had four hits in the game.
Â
Miami (Ohio) took a 3-0 lead right off the bat with Adriana Barlow's home run in the first. Walks issued to Karlee Juarez and Allie Cummins set up Barlow's one-out shot to left field.
Â
Carmyn Greenwood's double earned Louisville's first hit of the game but wasn't enough to cross home plate. Through the next four innings, the score remained 3-0.
Â
The RedHawks extended their lead with back-to-back doubles by Allie Cummins and Barlow in the sixth.
Â
Louisville had an opportunity to score in the bottom of the sixth inning when Carmyn Greenwood dished out another double and Roby singled, placing two Cards on, but couldn't push a run across the plate.
Â
In the bottom of the seventh, the Cards threatened again when Jennifer Leonhardt was hit by pitch to reach first base. Wolfe's single out to left field and Carmyn Greenwood's single loaded the bases but the Louisville rally attempt came up short.
Â
Leonhardt (0-2) took the loss, giving up three runs on one hit. Holloway surrendered one run on two hits. Roby entered to pitch in the top of the sixth and held the RedHawks scoreless, allowing one hit and striking out three. Â
