March 28, 2021 | Softball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville softball team fell to No. 19/16 Virginia Tech 8-0 in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium.
The Cardinals will return to action next weekend when they travel to Pittsburgh for a four-game ACC series starting on Thursday.
Cassady Greenwood registered Louisville's only hit in the game and season-high five errors hampered the Cardinals (10-14, 4-9 ACC) in the loss, but Louisville could not overcome the Hokies' offense, which produced 11 hits including two home runs and two doubles.
The Hokies (19-5, 13-5 ACC) used two hits and a sacrifice fly by Kelsey Bennett to take a 1-0 lead in the first. Cana Davis' two-run homer in the second and Jayme Bailey's solo shot in the third extended the lead to 4-0.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Virginia Tech used three hits and three Cardinal miscues to put up a four-spot in the top of the fifth.
Taylor Roby (6-7) took the loss, giving up three runs in 2.0 innings.
Keely Rochard (15-2) struck out six in the five-inning one-hitter. Cana Davis went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs.
