Cards Sweep Pitt in ACC Doubleheader

PITTSBURGH, Pa. –Carmyn Greenwood went 7-for-7 with four doubles and Taylor Roby connected on a pair of home runs on the day as the University of Louisville softball team swept Pittsburgh 6-4 and 7-4 in an ACC doubleheader Saturday at Pitt's Vartabedian Field.

Louisville (12-14, 6-9 ACC) and Pitt (9-20, 4-15) will continue the series with a 2 p.m. game on Sunday.

Louisville 6 – Pitt 4
In the series opener, the Cardinals built a 6-0 lead and then withstood the Panthers' late-inning rally en route to a 6-4 win.

Carmyn Greenwood went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a run and an RBI and Roby was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs. Makayla Hurst registered two hits, including a two-run homer to help lead the Cardinals at the plate. Roby (7-7) delivered six strikeouts to pick up the win in the circle while Jennifer Leonhardt collected her fourth save of the season.

The Cardinals jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first. Carmyn Greenwood led off the game with a double and took second on a sacrifice bunt by Celene Funke. Taylor Roby's RBI single plated Greenwood to put the Cards on the scoreboard. Hurst followed with a two-run shot to centerfield for her fourth homer of the season, extending the lead to 3-0.

Louisville tacked on another run in the third when Roby doubled and was lifted for pinch-runner Jordyn Wolfe who scored on an error push the Cards ahead 4-0.

Roby's leadoff home run in the fifth made the score 5-0.

The sixth inning brought another Louisville run when Charley Butler reached on an error and eventually crossed the plate on Carmyn Greenwood's RBI single.

Pitt countered with four runs in the home half of the sixth. The Panthers used four hits, including a solo home run by Kayla Lane to bring the score to 6-4.

Leonhardt entered to pitch in the bottom of the seventh and retired all three batters she faced to pick up her team-best fourth save of the season.

Brittany Knight (1-7) took the loss after giving up six runs, four earned, on nine hits and striking out eight in a complete game effort.

In the nightcap, Louisville overcame a 4-1 deficit to beat the host Panthers 7-4. Carmyn Greenwood led the way with a career-high four hits, including two doubles, while Roby belted out her second homer of the day and Butler delivered a three-run shot to put the game away. Jennifer Leonhardt dealt a season-high eight strikeouts in 3.2 innings of relief to get the win.
