Louisville drops to 6-2 on the season heading into ACC play.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The top-ranked University of Louisville baseball team took a 5-2 loss against Morehead State on Tuesday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville is now 6-2 on the season with ACC play beginning this weekend for the Cardinals. UofL heads to Georgia Tech for three games starting on Friday in Atlanta.
Louisville couldn't find the big hit on Tuesday night, getting at least two runners on in all nine innings and leaving 19 on base. It was the most runners left on base in a nine-inning game since records are available in 2000.
Luke Seed made his second start of the season on the mound for the Cardinals, turning in four scoreless innings with just one hit allowed and seven strikeouts.
Louisville finally broke through in the fifth inning with Dalton Rushing cashing in a run-scoring chance with a groundout that brought home Trey Leonard to give the Cardinals the lead. UofL then doubled its advantage two innings later with Luke Brown drawing a bases loaded walk.
Morehead State (2-5) took control of the game in the eighth, sending 10 hitters to the plate with five coming across to score.
The Cardinals brought the tying run to the plate in the eighth and ninth innings, but could not find the hit they needed.
Brown, Leonard and Henry Davis all had multi-hit nights for the Cardinals.
