Louisville and Boston College kick off at 2 p.m. ET in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team returns to the road this weekend when it travels north to Chestnut Hill, Mass. to take on the Boston College Eagles tomorrow afternoon. Kickoff from inside Newton Campus Soccer Field is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville is riding a multi-game winning streak for the first time this season after opening the spring season with a 3-0 win at NC State and returning home to defeat Syracuse 3-1 last Friday night.
Pedro Fonseca leads the team with 11 points in the 10 games played, contributing four goals and three assists in his junior campaign. Senior midfielder's Elijah Amo and Carlos Sanchis have remained steady contributors in the lineup. Amo ranks second on the team with three goals and two assists, while Sanchis has notched a pair of goals this season, both coming in the last two games.
Detre Bell has started in goal in both spring matches and has recorded a 2-0-0 record with a .875 save percentage, 0.50 goals against average and one clean sheet. Bell posted 11 career shutouts while at Cal State Bakersfield.
SERIES HISTORY
Louisville leads Boston College 5-0-1 all-time, with all matches played since the program became an ACC member in 2014. While the Cardinals are undefeated in the series, five out of the six meetings have been decided been one goal and four required at least one overtime period.
LAST MEETING
Cherif Dieye's game winner with 5:25 remaining in the second overtime sealed a 3-2 Louisville comeback inside Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. After trailing throughout the second half, Leonard Getz's first collegiate goal with 39 seconds left forced extra time, where Louisville held their visitors without a shot in both periods, possessing a 6-0 advantage after regulation.
CARDINALS LIGHTING UP THE SCOREBOARD
In the midst of the current two-match winning streak, Louisville has found the back of the net six times compared to the 10 total goals scored in the fall. The last time the program has scored six goals over a two-game stretch was back-to-back 3-0 victories over in-state rival Kentucky and Florida Atlantic in the opening weeks of the 2019 season. Louisville remains undefeated (3-0-1) this season when scoring two or more goals.
FONSECA PICKING UP WHERE HE LEFT OFF
Junior forward Pedro Fonseca entered the 2020 season with high expectations after a strong close to the 2019 season and earning a spot on the ACC Preseason Watch List.
After missing a large chunk of 2019 due to injury, Fonseca returned in time for the postseason and made an immediate impact. The Brazilian scored in two of Louisville's three NCAA Tournament matches and added an assist in the other.
He has picked up right where he left off last season, finding the back of the net for a team-high four goals, adding three assists to his total. Fonseca has recorded goals against No.1 Wake Forest, Notre Dame, and No.5 Virginia, in addition to opening the spring portion of the season with a three-point performance at NC State. He leads the team with 11 points in 10 matches this season.
