Bronze in the 400 medley relay highlights day three for Louisville.
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Followed by eight top-8 finishes and bronze in the 400 medley relay, the University of Louisville moved into third place on day three of the 2021 ACC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Virginia extended its lead with 1047 points ahead of NC State's 879. Louisville passed Virginia Tech (578) which is now in fourth, while Notre Dame (509), Duke (502), North Carolina (399.5), Georgia Tech (391), Florida State (380), Miami (329), Pitt (277), and Boston College (147) round out the 12-team field.

Earlier this afternoon, freshman diver Else Prassterink qualified for the championship final of the platform event after taking fifth during prelims. During finals, she dove to eighth with a score of 253.35 as the gold medal went to North Carolina's Aranza Vazquez (337.10).

Virginia's Kate Douglass opened the night with a win in the 100 butterfly, clocking in at 49.96 to break Kelsi Worrell Dahlia's ACC Championship record of 50.06 from 2016. Two Cardinal freshmen made A-final appearances, as Gabi Albiero (51.59) and Tristen Ulett (52.05) finished fourth and seventh, respectively.

Alena Kraus shaved off over a half-second from her prelims time to win the C-final in 52.81 for 17th overall while Christiana Regenauer flew to 20th with a time of 53.33.

Another Cavalier took down a Cardinal record when Ella Nelson won the 400 individual medley in 4:02.62, besting the ACC meet and conference record of 4:03.51 set by Tanja Kylliainen in 2015. After qualifying first during prelims, Abby Hay finished fifth in the event in 4:09.33, just off the lifetime best of 4:08.67 from the morning.

Maria Sumida dominated the C-final, knocking off nearly eight seconds from her morning swim in 4:12.88 for 17th. Swimming in the B-final, Paige McCormick (4:16.15) and Carley Lowe (4:16.54) finished 13th and 14th overall.

Paige Madden gave Virginia another win by claiming the 200 freestyle in 1:42.61, an event that had two UofL swimmers compete in the A-final of. Shortly after racing the 100 butterfly, Kraus was back in the water to take fourth in 1:46.30 while Paige Hetrick placed sixth in 1:46.87.

Diana Dunn swam to second in the C-final with a time of 1:47.64 for 18th overall, and Madison Luther was right behind her in 1:48.01 for 19th.

NC State's Sophie Hansson clinched her third-straight title in the 100 breaststroke, bettering the ACC meet and conference mark of 57.67 set by Virginia's Alexis Wenger during prelims. Kaylee Wheeler cracked the 59-second barrier for the first time in her career, posting a time of 58.74 to secure fifth place.

Swimming in her first-ever conference A-final, Adeline Farrington snuck under the minute-marker in 59.73 for eighth place. Morgan Friesen clocked in at 1:00.76 to finish 12th.

It was another Wolfpack victory as Katharine Berkoff won the 100 backstroke, lowering her own meet record from this morning in 50.45. Tatiana Salcutan was the top finisher for the Cardinals after turning in a time of 53.44 for 14th. Ashlyn Schoof (53.46) and Paige Hetrick (54.08) finished 15th and 20th, respectively.

The Cardinals concluded the third day of competition by earning bronze in the 400 medley relay when Ulett (52.91), Wheeler (58.93), Albiero (51.26), and Regenauer (49.11) combined for a time of 3:32.21. Virginia set a new meet and ACC record in 3:26.25 to edge out runner-up NC State (3:26.88).

Saturday marks the fourth and final day of the 2021 ACC Championships. The Cardinals will compete in the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and 1650 freestyle, as well as the 400 freestyle relay and men's platform.

Prelims will begin at 11 a.m. with finals starting at 7 p.m. Both sessions will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
