2022 Softball Schedule Released

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville head softball coach Holly Aprile has released the Cardinals' 2022 schedule which includes two home tournaments along with 15 additional games at Ulmer Stadium. The spring slate also features contests against eight opponents which finished last season ranked among the top 25 in the three major national coaches' polls (NFCA, USA Softball and D1Softball.com). The Cardinals will open the season on February 10 when they travel to Boca Raton, Florida for the FAU First pitch Classic to face host Florida Atlantic, Bethune Cookman, Indiana and Ohio State.

The following weekend will bring another trip to Florida, this time will be a visit to Gainesville for the University of Florida's Tournament where Louisville will play a total of five games against quality opponents including No. 9/10/9- ranked Gators, Florida A&M, BIG EAST champion Villanova (twice) and a non-conference matchup against a top-20 Duke squad which is coming off of its 2021 ACC title.

Louisville will wrap up the month of February with its first-ever trip to Fayetteville, Arkansas for Wooo Pig Classic which features the Southeastern Conference Champion, 11th-ranked Razorbacks, along with Kansas, Southeast Missouri State and Nebraska.

After a midweek matchup at Miami (Ohio), the Cards will open play at Ulmer Stadium on March 4 with the first of back-to-back home tournaments as Louisville and the University of Kentucky collaborate for the inaugural Bluegrass Challenge which also includes Buffalo, Central Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and Valpo. The home stand continues when Illinois, Hofstra and Western Michigan visit Louisville for the Black & Red Challenge March 11-13. After a Wednesday contest against Western Illinois, UofL will open Atlantic Coast Conference play at Ulmer Stadium with a three-game series against Georgia Tech March 18-20.

Following three straight weekends at home, UofL will hit the road for an ACC matchup against 2021 ACC regular season champion No. 18/19/17 Clemson in Louisville's first-ever visit to Clemson, South Carolina. Louisville will continue its stretch of ranked opponents when it plays host to Atlantic Sun Champion, No. 25-ranked Liberty in a midweek home contest.

Louisville will hit the road again in April to face NC State in a three-game conference series before returning home for a seven-game home stands starting with its final non-conference matchup, a midweek contest against No. 16/15/15 Kentucky. The next two weekends will bring ACC foes North Carolina and Syracuse to Ulmer Stadium.

The Cards will hit the road once more to face another ranked ACC opponent when they travel to Blacksburg, Virginia to face No. 14/12/13 Virginia Tech.

Louisville will celebrate senior weekend April 29-May 1 when the Cardinals play host to Virginia in their regular season home finale. The Cardinals will then hit the road for a midweek stop at UIC before wrapping up the season at Notre Dame May 6-8.

The ACC Softball Championship will take place May 11-14 at Pittsburgh's Vartabedian Field.

Louisville returns 16 players from last year's team including National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Southeast Region and All-ACC selections Carmyn Greenwood and Taylor Roby. Among the returners are 12 upperclassmen including seven seniors and five juniors, as well as senior transfer Hannah File (James Madison) and graduate transfer Kendall Smith (Western Kentucky) - all of whom bring valuable experience to share and leadership that they provide both on and off the field.
