Cardinals Place Three on All-ACC Men’s Soccer Teams
November 10, 2021 | Men's Soccer
Aboubacar Camara, Pedro Fonseca and Sander Roed were each recognized on Wednesday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer program had three student-athletes recognized as the 2021 Men's Soccer All-ACC Teams were announced by the league on Wednesday morning.
Aboubacar Camara and Pedro Fonseca were each voted to the First Team, while Sander Roed was a Third Team and All-Freshman Team selection. The three selections are the most for the Cardinals since having three in 2018.
Camara has put together one of the top goal scoring seasons in program history this fall, currently tied for the ACC lead with 13 goals and leading the league with 28 points. The forward was the first Louisville student-athlete to score double digit goals since Mohamed Thiaw in 2016 and his 13 tallies are the third most in a single season in UofL history and the most since 1986.
This marks the second straight All-Conference selection for Fonseca, who earned Second Team honors in 2020. The Brazilian set career highs in goals (8), assists (8) and points (24) in his senior season. Fonseca is tied for the ACC lead with eight assists while ranking third in points and fifth in goals. Putting the finishing touches on his four-year career, Fonseca has moved into the top 10 all-time at Louisville for career assists and is five points away cracking the top 10.
Roed is Louisville's first freshman to earn All-Conference laurels since Tim Kubel did so in the Cardinals' first season in the ACC in 2014. The midfielder was part of a large group of Louisville freshmen that made an immediate impact in 2021. Roed registered three goals, five assists and 13 points during his debut campaign. The Norwegian delivered in some big moments in 2021, scoring the tying goal in the 87th minute against Evansville and assisting on the game-winner in double overtime at Syracuse.
Louisville is 10-6-1 on the season and captured its first ACC Atlantic Division title this season. The Cardinals await the NCAA Selection Show set for Monday to find out their postseason fate.
