Cardinals Finish Second at SMU Classic

UofL notches six wins on Day 2 of racing in Dallas
The University of Louisville swimming and diving teams posted six wins on the final day of competition at the SMU Classic to finish second.

The Michigan men won with a combined 336 points, followed by Louisville (325), Missouri (303), Texas A&M (255), SMU (242.5) and Arizona 168.5)Â The Michigan women won by compiling 356 points over the two days followed by Louisville (334), Missouri (284), Miami (240), SMU (230) and Arizona (209). The two-day event is being held at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.

The altered format event featured eight swimmers and one diver from each competing institution. Each swimmer competed in three events per day, and events were contested in two heats, with one swimmer from each school in each heat. Divers competed on 1 and 3 meter.

In the 200-medley relay, the Cardinal women finished fourth, going 1:38.28 put up by Tristen Ulett (25.15), Kaylee Wheeler (27.03), Christiana Regenauer (23.81) and an anchor of 22.29 by Gabi Albiero. The men touched second in their relay, boarding a 1:25.74 put up by Mitchell Whyte (21.83), Evegenii Somov (24.19), Dalton Lowe (20.33) and Haridi Sameh (19.39).

The Cardinals got their first win of the day when Arina Openysheva won the 500 free with a time of 4:44.55. Her male Cardinal counterpart, Murilo Sartori took fourth with a 4:26.38.

In the 200 breast, Â Daniel Sos out-dueled SMU to win the men's event in 1:56.57. Freshman Cardinal Kim Herkle touched second in 2:11.29 for the women.

In the 200 backstroke, Louisvillle's Nicolas Albiero surged to the wall for the win in 1:42.19Â on the women's side, Paige Hetrick was second with a time of 1:56.18.

Else Praasterink was fourth in the 3M diving event, putting up a score of 265.30. Daniel Pinto was also fourth in the 1M diving on the men's side, boarding a 256.60.

In the 100 freestyle, Christiana Regenauer was second, going 49.04 while Haridi Sameh was fourth for the men, with a  time of 44.01. Â

In the 200 fly, sophomore Tristen Ulett picked up a win for the Cardinals when she touched in 1:57.43 with Nicolas Albiero following suit, putting up the winning time of 1:42.29 for Louisville.

Daniel Sos picked up his second win of the day with a win in the 200-IM, posting a 1:45.23. For the women, Kim Herkle was back, touching third in 2:00.53.

In the final event of the day, the Cardinal women touched third with a time of 1:30.15, put up by Arina Openysheva (22.67), Christiana Regenauer (22.44), Gabi Albiero (22.33) and Kaylee Wheeler (22.72).
