Simon Scores Late, But Louisville Falls to Boston College
October 15, 2021 | Women's Soccer
Julia Simon’s goal in the 87th minute wasn’t enough as Louisville fell 2-1 to Boston College on Friday night.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Julia Simon scored in the 87th minute, but it wasn't enough as University of Louisville women's soccer fell 2-1 to Boston College on Friday night at Lynn Stadium.
Â
With the loss, Louisville moves to 7-5-1 on the year and 3-4 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while Boston College improves to 7-7-1 and 1-6 in league play.
Â
Boston College got on the board on a corner kick in the 17th minute. Laura Gouvin sent the corner towards the net and it bounced off the post directly into the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Â
Four minutes into the second half, Boston College extended its lead to 2-0 when Jenna Bike scored.
Â
Louisville nearly broke through in the 53rd minute when Maisie Whitsett's winding free kick was barely saved at the top of the net by Boston College goalkeeper Wiebke Willebrandt. Delaney Snyder then had a chance at the rebound, but her shot sailed high.
Â
After several chances to trim the lead in half, the Cardinals got on the board in the 87th minute when Snyder's pass found Simon in space, who drilled the ball past the goalkeeper to the bottom right of the net.
Â
Louisville got the ball in the scoring zone a couple times in the final minutes, but could not get off a shot and fell 2-1.
Â
The Cardinals outshot the Eagles 16-10 for the game, but managed just five shots on goal to BC's six.
Â
Gabby Kouzelos recorded four saves for Louisville, while Willebrandt finished with five.
Â
Next up, Louisville travels to No. 2 Virginia on Thursday night.
