LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville's men's and women's cross country teams travel to College Station, Texas on Saturday, Oct. 16 for Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invitational.
This year's event will be held at the Watts Cross Country Course, which will serve as the host site for the 2022 NCAA South Central Regional Championships.
The men's 8K race will kick off the morning at 9:00 a.m. CT, followed by the women's 6K race at 9:45 a.m. CT. This is the first time this season that the women have competed at the 6K distance, but head coach Dale Cowper believes that this meet presents a great opportunity to prepare for the courses both teams will face at the ACC Championships.
"Our trip to College Station is an opportunity for our students to have a new competitive experience," said Cowper. "The Watts Cross Country Course is known as one of the premier sites across the country and this week's race and distances are a great spot for our teams as we continue to get ready for the ACC Championships later this month. "
For the men, 13 of the 36 men's teams are ranked in the latest USTFCCCA Regional Rankings, while the women's 38-team field includes 11 programs ranked in their respective regions. Louisville is the lone ACC representative of the 34 D1 programs competing this weekend.
Live results from each race can be found here.
The Cardinals return to action off impressive performances at the home Live in Lou Classic on Oct. 3. The men recorded a fourth-place team finish, led by a top-15 finish from freshman Ian Kibiwot. A trio of Cardinals finished in the top-25 and Ben Ewert earned a personal-best 8K time of 24:37.2. Following the performance, the men appeared in seventh in the latest USTFCCCA Southeast Regional Coaches' Rankings.
Purity Sanga led throughout on the women's side, finishing 27th out of the nearly 400 runners competing. Freshman Mattie Kindelsperger and Megan John were the final two scorers as the women totaled a 15th-place team finish.
Following Saturday's meet, the Cardinals will prepare for the ACC Championships on Oct. 29 in South Bend, Ind.
