No. 19 Cardinal Women Down Cincinnati on Senior Day

The University of Louisville women's swim team downed visiting Cincinnati 165-91Â on Senior Day Saturday morning at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.

"Senior days are always a little different as I realize a bunch of great people who have impacted our program will be moving on to different paths in their lives," said Arthur Albiero, UofL head coach. "I am proud of this group of seniors, and how they have led the team this season. I like the way we competed today with solid relays and inspired performances in honor of our seniors. It was also great to have the support for our UofL Administration on deck today including our athletic director Vince Tyra. The support for Louisville Swimming and Diving is special.On the women's meet, we were excited to finally have a few swimmers back competing with the team.  In many ways the swims today were definitely a significant step in the right direction for this group."
In the opening event, the Cardinals won the 200 medley relay when Ashlyn Schoof (25.34), Kaylee Wheeler (26.68), Christiana Regenauer (23.59) with an anchor of 22.58 combined forces to post a time of 1:38.19.

Maddie Luther took top honors in the 1000-freestyle with a time of 9:56.16. Cardinal Paige McCormick went 10:10.11 for third place and Liberty Williams was fourth in 10:13.85.

In the 200 free, Alena Kraus powered to the wall in 1:44.97 for the win for the Cardinals. Diana Dunn was second in 1:47.99.

The Cardinals had a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 backstroke led by winner Ashlyn Schoof's time of 53.62. Tatiana Salcutan was second in 53.80 and Paige Hetrick was third in 54.37.

Senior Morgan Friesen won the 100 breaststroke posting a time of 1:00.17.

Tristen Ulett surged to the wall in 1:57.36 for the win in the 200 butterfly, Carley Lowe was second in 1:58.51. Cardinal freshman Gabi Albiero was third to make it a sweep when she touched in 1:58.89. Maria Sumida was fourth, turning in a 1:59.58 in exhibition.

Christiana Regenauer touched the wall in 22.37 to win the 50 freestyle. Kelly Tichenor was third in 23.56 and Olivia Livingston was fourth for the Cards with a time of 23.84.

Regenauer turned right around and won the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.91.  Katie Schorr was third for the Cards, clocking in at 50.88. Hetrick was fourth with a time of 51.02.

In the 200 back, Tatiana Salcutan was well ahead of the field with a two second cushion to win with a time of 1:56.49. Ashlyn Schoof was second in 1:58.37 to join Salcutan under two minutes. Abby Hay made it a sweep with a time of 2:00.05.

Morgan Friesen got her second win when she turned in a 2:10.13, four seconds ahead of the field. Kaylee Wheeler was second in 2:14.17.

Cincinnati's Syd St. Rose-Finear won the 500 freestyle with a 4:57.17 just ahead of Louisville's Liberty Williams, who went 4:58.13. Maddie Luther was fourth in 5:06.40.

Kraus made it a butterfly stroke sweep when she won the 100 fly in 52.80, out-touching Gabi Albiero's 54.44, who was second. Kelly Tichenor was fifth in 57.50.

In exhibition diving, Kayla Wilson posted the highest score in the platform with a score of 233.78. Abigail Andrews topped the scores in the 1M board with a 256.05. Kivanc Gur had the highest score in the men's platform with 348.23 and Logan Smith posted a 293.03. Louisville senior Daniel Pinto posted a 340.50 for the highest score in the men's 1M with teammate Adam Sneden was second highest with a score of 315.75.

Maria Sumida won the 400 IM with a time of 4:11.76 for the Cardinals with teammate Abby Hay put up the second fastest time at 4:13.87.
