The Cardinals have eight regular season matches on the schedule along with a pair of exhibition contests.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer program released its schedule for the upcoming fall season on Friday.
The Cardinals have eight regular season matches on the schedule along with a pair of exhibition contests.
The 11 Atlantic Coast Conference men's soccer teams competing in 2020 will play in two regions, with six conference games against regional opponents over a nine-week period.
Louisville will be in the North Region alongside Notre Dame, Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia and Virginia Tech. The Cardinals will play each region opponent once with a home-and-home against Notre Dame. Conference play begins on Oct. 2 with the Cardinals hosting Notre Dame at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
The top four teams in each region will qualify for the 2020 ACC Tournament. The quarterfinals (Nov. 15) and semifinals (Nov. 18) will be hosted at the four North Carolina-based ACC schools with the championship currently set for Nov. 22 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
Prior to ACC play, UofL has a pair of nonconference matches on the ledger. The Cardinals will open the regular season on Sept. 25 at home against Wake Forest in a match that will not count toward conference standings.
Louisville will then travel down the road to Lexington to take on Kentucky on Sept. 28 before opening up ACC action later that week.
The Cardinals will get two exhibition matches under their belts before the season opener against Wake Forest. UofL will play a neutral site contest against Notre Dame on Sept. 12 and travel to Pitt one week later.
John Michael Hayden is set to begin his second season at the helm of the men's soccer program. The Cardinals were 10-8-2 in 2019 and reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four seasons.
Attendance policies for fans at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium are still being reviewed and approved and will be announced in the days leading up to the first contest.
ACC leadership, and its medical advisory group, will continue to meet on a weekly basis to share information and discuss medical issues related to the ACC's return to play. Should any future adjustments be necessary, the ACC Board of Directors will do so at the appropriate time.
