Former Wright State Head Coach joins the Cardinals
Ben Roeser, former head coach of Wright State, has joined the University of Louisville Cardinals women's tennis team as a volunteer coach. Â
Â
Roeser served as men's and women's tennis head coach at Wright State from November of 2019 until June 2020, when the university shut down its tennis programs in part due of the budgetary effects of COVID-19.
Â
"I would like to welcome Ben Roeser to the University of Louisville Women's Tennis coaching staff," said UofL Head Coach Mark Beckham. "We are really fortunate to have him join us. With him being a former head coach at Wright State, we now have three coaches with head coaching experience on our staff. This year's team could potentially be the most talented team I've put together here so it will be very beneficial to have someone of Ben's level helping as a third coach for us. He will help with running team practices and doing individual instruction. He is very hungry to help us succeed and put his mark on a very good team. He will be a fresh voice and bring some new ideas to the staff and team. I am going to give him free rein to coach and develop the players as best as he can. I am extremely excited about how he can help us reach our potential."
Â
Â
Roeser quickly rose in the ranks at Wright State, beginning as a volunteer assistant in January of 2017 before earning a full-time role in September of that same year. As an assistant coach he helped lead the Raiders to their first ever winning season and saw the women's team earn a finals berth in the Horizon League Tournament in 2018.
Â
"I first want to thank Coach Beckham and Coach Fulton for giving me this special opportunity," said Roeser. "I could not be any more excited to join the Louisville women's tennis staff. I've coach at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center many times and have great respect for the program and the university that has been on the rise. The University of Louisville is truly a place you can be proud of and I look forward to helping the student-athletes both on and off the courts." Â
Â
Prior to arriving at Wright State, Roeser served as a coach for a variety of local organizations across the Northeast region of the United States.
Â
He cut his teeth with his own career as a collegiate tennis player at Southern Indiana University from 2008 to 2010, during which time he played for the nationally ranked Eagles as they earned a spot in the Round of 32 in the Division II NCAA Tournament.
Â
Roeser received his Bachelor's degree in Specialized Studies (Communications and Recreation) from Ohio University.
