Junior from Windsor, Colorado made the A-finals at ACCs this year in both the 100- and 200-breaststroke
Throughout the remainder of the 2020, we will check in with the athletes on the University of Louisville swimming and diving team as they complete their semesters online. This week we check in with junior Morgan Friesen from Windsor, Colo.
Q: What is your favorite pump-up song?
A: I do not have one particular song that I listen to, I just like to listen to anything upbeat before a meet/race.

Q: What is your favorite pregame meal?
A: Anything simple – chicken and rice or a turkey lettuce wrap.

Q: Where is your favorite place you have competed?
A: Â Irvine, California or Omaha, Nebraska

Q: Excluding your sport, what is your favorite sport to watch?
 A: I love to watch football, especially Cardinal Football.

Q: What is a hobby that you have that most people do not know you have?
A: I love doing anything competitive – playing board games, yard games, sports, anything.

A: My warmup routine is the same for each meet; it helps to get me into the right mindset and get ready to race.

Q: If you could pick any college to compete against, who would it be?
A:  University of Kentucky – there is no other meet like a dual meet against UK.

Q: Who is your hero/role model?
A: My parents

Q: If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
 A: Tacos!!!! All types of tacos!

Q: What is your favorite animal to see at the zoo?
A: Â Bear cubs

 A: When people are arrogant.

A: Â I am missing one of my bottom front teeth.

A:  Skiing – downhill, slalom, super-g, all of it.

A: I have never really been told I look like one celebrity by multiple people.

Q: What is your best memory/experience competing in your sport?
A: My favorite memory, that still gives me chills to this day, is getting fourth as a team at NCAAs in 2019.

Q: Why did you choose Louisville?
A: There are too many reasons and not enough time to answer this question.

Q: How do you know coming to Louisville was the right decision for you?Â
A: I knew Louisville was the right place for me because the team environment was so positive and it was contagious. The program is not only extremely successful but they also have fun while putting in the work. In addition, the school offered my desired major, I was able to be a part of a very strong FCA program, and  Louisville is a great place to live.

Q: What is one thing our program has taught you?
A: Being apart of Louisville swim and dive team has taught me how to push through adversity, work hard for your team, and to rely on my teammates. There is no one else in the world who does these things better than our program.

Q: What is your favorite thing about our team/program?Â
A: My favorite part about our program is the universal determination and passion that everyone shares everyday. Everyone relentlessly working together for a common goal is something very powerful.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at Louisville?
A: There are so many things that I am thankful for being a student-athlete at Louisville. One of favorites would be the endless support that we have from all areas of the athletic department. From our coaches, to our support staff, to academic resources, everyone partners with the student-athletes to help them achieve their full potential while they are at Louisville and to set them up for success after.

Q: What do you miss most about being on campus?
 A: Working out and being with my teammates/best friends everyday.

Q: What are you doing with yourself during your free time?Â
A: I am enjoying my time at home with my family and getting to spend quality time with them. I am also getting creative with my workouts and enjoying finding new ways to reach my goals.

Q: What's one thing you wish you had with you during this time?
 A: An open pool that I could swim in regularly with my teammates.
Â
Q: How are you continuing to stay in shape during this time?
A: To stay in shape, I have been taking Pelaton classes; I have been using the program for bike classes, yoga, running, strength exercises, and dancing cardio. I have also been lifting, doing dryland circuits, and making sure to get in a couple hours of intense activity everyday.

Q: How have you and your teammates been keeping in contact?
A: To keep in contact during this time, my teammates and I have been texting, facetiming, coordinating zoom calls, having virtual game nights, and pretty much anything else under the sun. We miss each other a lot.
