Men's Soccer Announces Addition of Ba and Danquah

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's soccer head coach John Michael Hayden has announced the addition of two student-athletes in Macoumba Ba (Dakar, Senegal/SIMA Gold) and Eric Danquah (Accra, Ghana/SIMA Gold), to compete for the Cardinals beginning with the 2020 season.

"Macoumba and Eric are two very talented players that will join us in the fall," Hayden says. "They both had tremendous youth careers with the highly competitive Montverde Academy. Eric and Macoumba join an already talented group of incoming freshmen. The current roster along with these additions should make for an exciting fall."

Hometown: Dakar, Senegal
Club: SIMA Gold
Position: Forward
Bio: Spent the last four years at Montverde Academy (FL), where he competes for the Soccer Institute of Montverde Academy (SIMA) Gold team. SIMA Gold plays against various youth academies, professional teams, youth and senior national teams across the world. Ba has also gained valuable experience through training stints with various professional clubs including Orlando City (MLS), Villareal (La Liga), Sporting CP (Primeira Liga), and RCD Espanyol (La Liga).
Hayden on Ba: Macoumba is a dynamic winger who excels in 1v1 situations. He is explosive with and without the ball and likes to create goal scoring situations in the final third.

Hometown: Accra, Ghana
Club: SIMA Gold
Position: Midfield
Bio: Spent the last two years at Montverde Academy (FL), where he competes for the Soccer Institute of Montverde Academy (SIMA) Gold team. SIMA Gold plays against various youth academies, professional teams, youth and senior national teams across the world. Before joining Montverde, Danquah spent time with Mirage Academy in his home country of Ghana.
Hayden on Danquah: Eric is a versatile midfielder who has a tremendous engine. He reads the game extremely well and knows how to dictate the rhythm of a match.

The men's soccer team concluded its first season under head coach John Michael Hayden with a 10-8-2 record, which included two NCAA victories over USF and No. 18 UC Davis. The Cards qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight year and have now made the NCAA Tournament 12 of the last 13 seasons. The Cardinals advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the last four years and the seventh time in the last 10 seasons. The Cards handed eventual national champion Georgetown its lone loss of the season. UofL finished the season ranked 20th in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
