The Louisville native and Cardinal libero is home safe
Throughout the remainder of the 2020 spring semester, we will check in with the players on the University of Louisville volleyball team as they complete their semesters online. This week we check in with Alexis Hamilton.Â
Q: What are you doing with yourself during your free time?Â
A: I have tried to keep myself busy by working out, learning to cook, and doing my online school work.
Q: What did you have originally planned for spring break and what did you actually do?
A: I had a boring spring break from the beginning. I got my wisdom teeth taken out. I rested most of the break and watched Netflixs.
Q: How are you continuing to stay in shape during this time?
A: I have been doing the workout plan that my strength coach, Sean Smith, sent out. I have also found some fun bodyweight workouts on Instagram. I have been trying to stay active by walking the dog and doing things outside.
Q: Your impressions on the spring season up to this point?
A: This spring season, has been one of my favorites. The chemistry and competitiveness of this team, is like no other. I love going in everyday to practice with my team because everyone is so motivated to go further next season.
Q: What will you miss most about being on campus?
A: I miss being with my team and being able to go hangout with everyone. I also miss just being around athlete's and all of my Louisville family.
Q: Have you and your teammates been keeping in contact through all of this and how?
A: Yes, we have been doing group Facetime and Zoom calls. This has been a great way to continue to catch up and socialize safely with my teammates. We have also been texting and doing fun challenges on social media.
Q: Is there anything you would like to say to Card Nation?
A: I would love to thank Card Nation for all the love and support over the years. We have the best fans and we wouldn't be where we are without them!
Q: What is your favorite memory as a Cardinal?Â
My favorite memory as a cardinal is when we made it to the elite eight. To get to the elite eight, we had to beat the No. 2 team, Texas. This was one of the most exciting games I have ever been a part of. Our team came out with no fear and gave it everything we had. We had no doubts and we were able to accomplish our goal. This is a day, I will remember forever.
Q: Are you home or on campus? (Either way, what have you been doing? what have you binged watched, hobbies, etc.)
A: I have been living at home, which is about 15 minutes from campus. I have been watching Longmire on Netflix's. I also have been going to the park and learning how to play tennis. I have been trying to find ways to stay active.
Q: How have people in your family been directly affected by the virus?
A: My family has been healthy and no one has been affected. My sister works in a hospital and my dad is a firefighter. We have been practicing social distancing, to make sure we all stay healthy and safe.
Q: What are your thoughts on spring season being canceled?
A: I was super bummed when I heard the news. This has been one of our best spring seasons. Our team practices were very high level and competitive. I was looking forward to taking the court with my team against Kentucky and the other teams we were going to play.
Q:Â Â What would you say to the spring sports who lost a whole season? Â
A: I would tell all the winter/spring sports how I sorry I am. I truly can't imagine getting my season taken away. I would also remind that, that everything happens for a reason and to try and stay positive during this tough time.
