Louisville Hits the Road to Face Iowa, Cornell

Louisville, Ky. – Looking to build momentum from two straight shutout victories, the University of Louisville men's tennis team will hit the road this weekend to Iowa City, Iowa to face No. 28 Iowa on Friday and then take on No. 16 Cornell on Saturday.
About Louisville
The Cardinals (9-4, 2-1 ACC) enter the weekend after completing a home doubleheader sweep of Kennesaw State and Xavier, defeating each team by a score of 4-0.
Louisville is led in singles by junior Tin Chen, who carries a 20-6 overall record and is 6-3 at No. 1 in dual matches. Sophomore Sergio Hernandez follows with a 16-7 record and is 7-4 at the No. 2 spot. Hernandez and fellow sophomore Fabien Salle leads the Cardinals in doubles with an overall record of 13-3.
Chen was named ACC Men's Tennis Co-Player of the Week on January 21 after leading Louisville to a 4-3 upset of No. 10 Virginia. The junior clinched the match with a 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 win against No. 68 Gianni Ross at No. 1.
Chen stands at No. 91 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings. In the fall, he became the first player in program history to capture the ITA/Ohio Valley Regional singles title.
Head coach Rodrigo da Silva is in his first season at the helm at Louisville. He took over the program in September 2019 after spending four seasons as the head coach at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He makes his return to UofL where he spent six years (2009-14) as an assistant coach, helping guide the Cardinals to three BIG EAST Conference tournament titles and five NCAA Tournament appearances.

Scouting the Hawkeyes: No. 28 ranked Iowa (10-2) is currently on a three-match winning streak. Last weekend they defeated VCU 4-3 and Nebraska 5-2. The Hawkeyes are led by red-shirt senior Kareem Allaf who is currently ranked 51 in the ITA polls and holds a 9-1 record at the No. 1 spot. In doubles, No. 12 ranked Oliver Okonkwo and Will Davies led the team with a 4-3 overall record.

Last Meeting: May 13, 2011 UL won 4-0
Scouting the Big Red: No. 16 ranked Cornell is currently on a four-match winning streak prior to Friday's match against Drake. Last weekend, they defeated Harvard 4-1 and Tulsa 4-2 to improve to 7-1 on the season. In singles, No. 122 Eero Vasa leads the Big Red who returns 10 players from last season.
