Louisville has dropped the doubles point in all five ACC wins, but rallied back in singles competition

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team came out on top in a back-and-forth contest against Virginia Tech, claiming a 4-3 victory on Friday evening at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

Virginia Tech (5-14, 2-9 ACC) swiftly earned the early advantage, taking down court three by a score of 6-1 then court one, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point.

The two teams traded points throughout the match. Virginia Tech never gained more than a one-point lead, and Louisville never secured a lead until it clinched the match.

Matei Onofrei was the first Cardinal to finish. In his debut on the top court, the sophomore rallied back from a first set deficit to take a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory. The Hokies then claimed a hard-fought 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory on court two to go up 2-1.

Hamza El Amine took court four in a three-set thriller, 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2 to retie the match. VT retook the lead on a second set tiebreak, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) to put the team within one.

Sophomore Louis Chusseau tied the match for UofL with a tough 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory on court six.

With the match on the line, Pedro Cressoni overcame a 4-1 deficit in his third set to claim a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory and clinch the match for the Cards.

Louisville (17-10, 5-6) will remain in the state with a match against No. 4 Virginia on deck for Sunday, April 5. First serve is set for 1 p.m. ET.
