Cardinals Fall 5-1 to Missouri

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The University of Louisville softball team wrapped up play at the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic with a 5-1 loss to Missouri Sunday morning the Eddie C. Moore Complex.

The Cardinals will return to action next weekend when they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take on Michigan and Wisconsin in the ACC/Big Ten Classic.

The Tigers (5-0) took an early lead with a pair of runs in the second. Kendyll Bailey delivered a leadoff hit and scored on a hit by Megan Moll. Brooke Wilmes singled Bailey home to put Mizzou on top 2-0.

Louisville (1-4) countered in the third when sophomore Taylor Roby powered a solo shot over the centerfield fence to cut the lead in half.

Missouri got the run back in the bottom of the third when Kimberly Wert doubled and crossed the plate on a two-out error to make the score 3-1.

The Tigers plated two more unearned runs in the sixth. After being hit by a pitch, Moll scored on an error. Wilmes, who had reached on a fielder's choice and moved to third on a miscue, came home on a hit by Cayla Kessinger to extend the lead to 5-1.

Chardonnay Harris (0-3) took the loss after giving up three runs, two earned, on six hits and striking out one in 2.2 innings. Roby went 2-for-2 with a home run while freshman Jenna Servi was 2-for-3 with a double to lead Louisville at the plate.

Megan Schumacher (1-0) got the win after giving up one earned run on six hits and striking out five in 5.0 innings of work. Wert went 2-for-2Â with a run to help lead the Tigers offensively.
