Transfer has added muscle to the Cardinal Lineup
Meet Nina Jovic (Click the start button the the photo above for the interview)
Today's feature tennis player is Nikolina Jovic, or Nina as her teammates call her. Nina transferred into Louisville last season from South Carolina. She has seen limited action this spring due to a nagging elbow injury but is projected to be back in the lineup soon.Â
In 2018-19, she went 19-10 in singles and 11-11. Last fall, she advanced to the quarterfinals at the ITA Regional, falling to eventual champion in the main draw.Â
Prior to being a Cardinal, while Jovic was in juniors, she had multiple wins against top 100 players, won several national titles and earned WTA world ranking points as a 15 year old. Her ability to play at a high level was obvious and looking for the right environment for her to play and develop into the best tennis player she could.
Â
"Her tennis ability because she is a very good player but more than anything I like her competitiveness, she's not going to give you anything and that alone can help you win sometimes when you are not supposed to, she is kind of an old school athlete in that regard. Nikolina is a very talented and dedicated player, she loves being on a tennis court. You can win a lot of matches with that mentality. I will definitely love coaching her." said Beckham.
• Transferred to Louisville from South Carolina
• Posted second-most singles wins on team (19)
• Reached Round of 16 at ITA Ohio Valley Regionals
• Defeated No. 82 Fernando Navarro of Clemson in three sets on Feb. 24
